Discovery Session
A Discovery Session, offered at no cost, is the first step in many of Blou Designs' services.
This isn't one of those 15-minute calls that's designed to sign you up for a service. (There's no obligation here.)
This is a 1-hour strategic meeting, followed about a week later by a Summary document.
- The Discovery Meeting is designed to help you clarify where you’re at now and where you want to go – based on your own assessment.
- The Summary is designed to be a reference tool - your responses will be structured as a presentation of what you said, without judgement and sometimes using your own words verbatim.
Every Summary document also contains a final section entitled Suggestions for Future Development. This section provides some ideas of "how" you might move in the direction of your goals. This isn’t about prescriptive methods that "work for everyone;" it’s tailored to address and accommodate themes that emerge from your Summary. It usually contains suggestions for steps you can take on your own to make progress (i.e., "Easy Wins and Light Lifts") and some "Longer-term Strategies" that might require some help. Some of these suggestions may include specific services offered by Blou Designs.
Many people find the Summary itself to be helpful, even before we start working together.
How does this work?
You'll meet with me, Barbara, the Owner of Blou Designs.
As a rule, I'll conduct the meeting as a free flowing, stream of consciousness type interview.
I use a standard list of open-ended questions to get us started, but, by and large, I tailor the rest of the questions based on your responses. I take extensive notes during our meeting, but the meeting will not be recorded.
To prepare, you should:
- Make sure that you won't be interrupted or distracted during the time block you choose.
- Be ready to talk honestly about your business for the full hour.
- Be ready to talk about these two things, even if your answer is "I don't know."
- You're scheduling with me because you have an issue. What is it? Why is it happening now, or why is it more urgent now?
- What are you hoping to get out of working with Blou Designs? What do you think it will look like for us to make progress together?
After our session, I'll pull together my notes on what we discussed, and, as applicable, some ways we might be able to work together. You should receive this write-up in your email about a week after our session. The write-up is not only a summary of things you've said, organized under various headings, but can serve as a reflective tool for the way you're thinking about and describing your business today.
This Discovery Session and write-up provided me with exceptional clarity and focus on what is most important to do next for my business.
